TITUS
"I will not waste your time or mine by saying that I'm not obsessed."
It's not very often than I'm completely taken by a show. Okay, okay, it features a very funny guy who happens to be a hot-rodder. A professional one, with a shop. My dad's been into cars since he could get grease under his fingernails and despite my "double-x chromosome issue" (don't ever tell me there's something I can't do, just 'cause I'm a girl) I picked up a bit of the greaser thing, too. How am I supposed to not automatically be inclined to watch the show? Secondly, it's got Stacy Keach. Being irascibly funny. You've got to watch to know what I mean.
And before you think I'm neglecting the star of the show, try Christopher Titus' own website if the Fox site doesn't have enough goodies for you. I've watched this guy perform live, and there's a reason they call his performance a "one-man show" and not a stand-up routine. And despite all the enormously unimaginable hardships he's gone through (some not his fault, some of them very definitely his fault), he's an unbelievably nice guy. I've actually met him. So if he's out and about in your town, check out his stage show. And watch Titus, 9:30 pm Wednesdays on Fox. The second season premiere is November 14th at 9:30. You have been warned. You have no excuses.
Emiko
I support other artists whenever I can. I mean, it's not the easiest of times right now, and even in better years, expressing one's self is a difficult and heartwrenching thing. I met Emiko in my karate class; honestly, there are few things she cannot do. But very recently she's snagged herself a record deal, and all y'all out there should be among the first to hear just how amazing she is. Even if I'd only heard a song on the radio, wihtout knowing her, I would have picked up a copy of the CD. Drop by the site -- she's got several songs up there, so you can get a taste. And when you do get Here Lies Tinkerbell, listen to it with headphones. I have it straight from the producer that there's a lot of subtle ear candy that makes everything all the sweeter.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation's Blue Ribbon Campaign.
If there's one thing I feel strongly about, it's freedom of speech. I'm a writer and an artist, and censorship is the one thing that really threatens my existence. Censorship threatens the existence of anyone with an opinion, really, and we have to be really, really careful when we go around telling people what they can and cannot say. Though the EFF sometimes cleaves to some beliefs that are a little too libertarian for my tastes, I fully stand behind their efforts in keeping bandwidth free of gag orders.
The United States Constitution.
In light of recent events, it's time to get down and dirty and figure out just how we came to be the way we are. This site, courtesy of the Law School of Emory University, in Atlanta, Georgia, is the most comprehensive and clearly laid-out online reference I've found containg both the text of the Constitution and additional commentary. I like to pay close attention to the First Amendment, myself, but the entire document is worth looking at, because this is what made us what we are right now. And it's an enormous irresponsibility to not be at least a little familiar with it. I'm not talking about memorization, that's just busywork. I'm talking about comprehension, which is a lot more difficult, but far more fulfilling in the end.
America's Finest News Source.
Gawd, you don't think I'm this serious all the time, do you? Sometimes the stories are a little off
the mark, but when they're good, they're good.
One Small Step For Man ....
I'm a sci-fi geek. Nothing gratifies me more than watching fiction become fact. Too cool.
"The Best Show. Ever."
At least that's what the folks at The Daily Show claim every weeknight. Irony is not dead. Well, okay.
Bad irony is dead. Funny irony that points out all the dumb stuff we do when we're not thinking straight is still very much alive and kicking. This show won a Peabody, and for good reason. If you don't
know what a Peabody is, then ask me and if enough people ask, I'll explain it on this website to keep you people from jamming my inbox.
La Republica Mexicana
I'm Mexican-American. So is Ree. If you looked at us, you'd never know. But I know I'm proud of my heritage, so why don't you drop by the official presidential website? It defaults to Spanish (duh!), but if your foreign language skills aren't quite up to snuff, in the lower left-hand quarter of the screen is a drop-down menu that'll let you change the site to English.
